Organic farming set to mushroom around Khao Yai

FREELAND‘s Sustainable Organic Farm and Training Center opened this month with the blessing of Thai Buddhist monks in Wang Nam Keaw, near Khao Yai National Park.

The training center will help communities who live around protected areas in Central Thailand to learn about sustainable organic farming of low impact crops, such as mushrooms, as well as value-adding processes, to kick-start their own businesses.

This FREELAND community outreach initiative aims to ensure people have a viable and legal alternative to poaching wild animals and plants – a way out of poverty that will reduce pressures on the environment around them for the benefit of all living creatures.

Ten mushroom barns are still to be constructed on the farm site, which will also act as a cooperative wholesale collection point. By the end of the year, the FREELAND Farm will be producing and selling delicious organic mushrooms.

Contact FREELAND to find out how you can visit or support this great initiative.
